Honda has backed out of importing the lightweight version of its twelve-year-old NSX supercar ‘for reasons of economy’. The paired-down purists' NSX-R, recently driven by Autocar, was to be offered in extremely low volumes – insiders were discussing ‘only 15-20 cars’ at around £75k each – but even then, the specialist cars would represent an unacceptable loss for Honda UK.

‘Ultimately, we’ve got to satisfy the economists before we can serve the enthusiasts,’ a spokesman told us.
