Autocar understands the Enzo replacement, due in 2012/13, could make use of a direct-injection twin-turbocharged V8 engine.

The original car used a 6.0-litre V12 engine, which produced 651bhp at 7800 rpm and 485lb ft of torque at 5500rpm. Features of the prancing horse’s supercar included Formula 1-inspired carbonfibre body, F1 gearbox and ceramic disc brakes. Also on the features list were active aerodynamics and traction control.

It’s expected the next Enzo will be also be a flagship for Ferrari’s new-generation aerodynamic technology, including ‘active aerodynamics’ that pump air out through the body to influence the way airflows over and under the skin.
