Ferrari vs McLaren; up close with Aston Martin's sensational new concept; Renault Sport Spider used buying guide; Toyota Aygo road test

This week's Autocar magazine, dated 2 July, pits two of the very best V8 supercars on sale today in an eagerly awaited comparison test.

Representing Italy is the Ferrari 458 Speciale, which Maranello has declared the fastest, most advanced, but also the most fun to drive mid-engined V8 sports car it has ever built.

Up against it is the McLaren 650S, the British car formerly known as the 12C. These extraordinary machines show how much variety is now available for people with £200k to spend on a notionally perfect, 600-horsepower, mid-engined plaything – but which one comes out on top of our comparison?

The issue also includes a six-page round-up of all the news, car reveals and track action from the Goodwood Festival of Speed

On top of that, we've enjoyed exclusive access to the sensational Aston Martin DP-100 concept car, the design created for the Gran Turismo 6 computer game on PlayStation 3 that was shown off at Goodwood. Steve Cropley delves deep into the thinking behind the car with its creators.

We also look forward to the next major event in this packed summer of sport - the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. McLaren's Jenson Button tells us that he's not entertaining thoughts of retirement from Formula 1, and we also have a tour of Merc's successful engine building plant in Northamptonshire.

The new Toyota Aygo is the subject of our in-depth road test. Does the new city car have enough zest to depose the Volkswagen Up from the top of the class? Find out in our eight-page assessment.

Our long-term test car fleet bids au revoir to the Renault Zoe. Was the all-electric supermini constrained by its charging requirements or did it banish any thought of 'range anxiety' from our minds?

Our buying used section focuses on the Renault Sport Spider, a relatively rare but extremely enjoyable roadster that's available on the second-hand market for about £17,000.

Autocar magazine is available through all good newsagents, and available for download from Zinio and the Apple iTunes store.
