Mercedes has given this year’s refreshed C63 a substantial visual overhaul, along with a new 9-speed gearbox and torque-vectoring eDiff differential - but no power hike. Not that it needed one.
This is still the only super saloon available with a V8 engine - that’s still in production or available in right-hand drive, at any rate. The AMG-fettled, twin-turbocharged 4.0 hot vee pushes 503bhp to its rear wheels, with a nine-stage traction control system shared with the AMG GT-R and the vocals to match.
Turn that dial to 9 and all the digital helping hands switch off, all but guaranteeing tyre smoke and sideways action out of every corner. We tested it out at Germany’s Bilster Berg race circuit to see if the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S is still the super saloon to go for.
