Heavily disguised prototype shows new Subaru Forester, which is at least 12 months away from launch

This heavily disguised prototype is the new Subaru Forester, which is at least 12 months away from being launched.

It is based on the same platform as the new Subaru XV crossover, which itself is a modified Impreza platform, which sees the A-pillars placed further forward for increased interior room.

Unlike the XV, however, the Forester has a slightly higher roofline and longer front and rear overhangs. It also means the Forester has a usefully bigger boot than the XV. It also uses the same dashboard and controls as its more compact sister car.

The European engine line-up is expected to be the same as the XV’s with an entry-level 1.6-litre petrol, a 2.0-litre petrol engine and 2.0-litre diesel. US markets may get a hybrid version of the Forester but it’s unlikely to come to the UK.
