The forthcoming Fiat Panda 4x4 has been spied during testing in Scandinavia

The new Fiat Panda 4x4 has been spied during cold weather testing. This all-wheel-drive version of the Italian company’s popular small car was spotted in largely uncamouflaged guise.

Fiat is backing up it’s the 2WD model range of the Panda with this 4x4 variant, which has extra-strength suspension mountings and unique spring/damper/anti-roll bar rates delivering increased wheel travel.

Drive to the rear wheels is through a hydraulically actuated multi-plate clutch ahead of the rear differential. The Panda 4x4 is expected to come with a six-speed manual gearbox. The 4x4 Panda also gets a new design of front and rear bumper compared to the standard model.

The two-wheel-drive version of the Panda was on display at the Frankfurt motor show late last year and goes on sale here in April, with the 4x4 slated to follow towards the end of 2012.

There was probably a degree of worry in some quarters when Fiat said they were keeping the previous 4x4 version in production. This has probably been released by Fiat to show they are intending to produce a new version.
