The Vauxhall Insignia is now available with the Luton marque’s most powerful diesel engine, a twin-turbo unit that produces 198bhp and 295lb ft.
The car, known as the Vauxhall Insignia BiTurbo, comes in either a five-door hatch or sports tourer body and will be available with either four-wheel drive or front-drive only.
Under the bonnet, the twin-sequential turbocharged diesel is based on the existing 1956cc unit that powers models in the Insignia, Astra and Zafira Tourer range.
In BiTurbo form – where a smaller turbo accelerates more quickly at lower revs to elminate lag and a larger turbo kicks in at higher engine speeds – the engine produces up to 35bhp more power and a 37lb ft. The maximum 295lb ft of torque arrives between 1750-2500rpm, when both turbos are working together.
In five-door hatch, front-wheel drive configuration, the Insignia BiTurbo will cover 0-60mph in 8.2sec. That variant of the car, which features standard start-stop, returns a claimed 57.6mpg and CO2 emissions of 129g/km.
Vauxhall’s FlexRide adaptive damping is standard on all Insignia BiTurbos. The system is normally a £790 option on front-wheel drive Insignias.
The Insignia BiTurbo will be available in SRi, SRi Vx-line and Elite trims, priced from £27,120 on the road for the SRi 2.0CDTi S/S version. The lowest-priced 4x4 variant will cost £29,725.
