Features for the ‘4’ include a leather interior, integrated seven-inch colour touch screen sat-nav system, cruise control and colour reversing camera. Externally, kit includes 17-inch alloys, black bezel headlights and tinted rear windows.

The car’s 1.6 CRDi diesel engine also sees improvements of 13bhp – up from 113bhp to 126bhp – compared with the rest of the range. A six-speed manual gearbox comes as standard, with a £1100 four-speed automatic ‘box available as an option on the Cee’d SW ‘4’.

Flat out, manual variants of the ‘4’ will reach 122mph, with 60mph achieved in 10.6sec – or 10.8sec for the SW. On the combined cycle, the new hatchback returns 62.8mpg and 119g/km CO2 emissions.

The automatic SW version achieves 20 per cent less on the combined cycle (48.7mpg) and 154g/km CO2.
