SSC's new supercar will aim to retain the coveted title as the world's fastest car

American manufacturer Shelby SuperCars, has revealed its latest model, dubbed the Tuatara.

After only three years of production of the SSC’s former world’s fastest car – the 256mph, 1062bhp Ultimate Aero – the new supercar will aim to regain the coveted title with this “monumentally evolved” version. See renderings of the new Shelby SuperCars Tuatara

“Areas of sophistication, design, aerodynamics and shear all-around performance,” have been revised, according to the company.

No details have been given on the new supercar, but SSC founder and lead designer Jerod Shelby describes its name as having been inspired by a modern-day New Zealand reptile.

“A direct descendent of the dinosaur, this reptile's name translated from the Māori language means "peaks on the back," which is quite fitting, given the winglets on the back of the new car.
