Mercedes has equipped its E-class range with a pair of new petrol engines and an improved seven-speed automatic transmission to boost power and performance, while also improving fuel economy and lowering Co2 emissions.
The E350 and E500 models both get new engines with Mercedes’ BlueDirect direct-injection technology, meaning all engines in the E-class range now feature direct-injection.
The E350 is equipped with a new 302bhp 3.5-litre V6 unit that produces more power than the outgoing unit’s 288bhp.

It is mated to Mercedes’ new 7G-Tronic Plus auto’ ‘box and a new stop-start system to help boost economy by 20 per cent to as low as 41.5mpg, depending on which bodystyle it is specified in.
CO2 emissions are between 159g/km and 164g/km, while its 0-62mph time is cut from 6.8sec to 6.3sec. Top speed remains limited to 155mph.
The E500 has also been equipped with a new engine, a twin-turbocharged 4.6-litre V8. This replaces the current car’s 5.5-litre unit.

Despite its smaller size, power is increased from 382bhp to 402bhp and torque is up from 392lb ft to 443lb ft. It can gent from 0-62mph in 5.2sec, a figure identical to the current car, and its top speed is also limited to 155mph. The E500 also benefits from a 17 per cent improvement in fuel consumption to 31.7mpg.
The new seven-speed auto’ and stop-start system has also been fitted to the E200 CDI, E220 CDI, E200 and E250 models to improve economy and CO2 figures.
