Renault’s Korean subsidiary Samsung has shown its big new SM7 saloon ahead of a debut at next week’s Seoul motor show.
Samsung’s official teaser sketch shows its SM7 concept version will feature much sleeker styling than its predecessor, including a long, flowing coupe-like roofline, narrow glasshouse and a strong Volvo-style shoulder line. A large trapezoid grille dominates the front of the car.

The current SM7 has been on sale since 2004 and is based on Nissan’s J31 platform that’s also used for the Nissan Teana and Maxima models sold in Asia and North America respectively.
The new SM7 is expected to be based on an elongated version of the platform used on the smaller Samsung SM5 saloon. The SM5 also forms the basis of the Renault Latitude, the largest car sold by Renault in Europe.
A Renault-badged version of the SM7 is unlikely to ever be sold in Europe, let alone the UK, due to the firm’s current stance on not offering anything larger than the Latitude in Europe.
