The VW Jetta range will cost from £16,960 and is available with two petrol and two diesel engines

Volkswagen has announced pricing for its new Jetta saloon.

Prices for the entry-level 1.4-litre TSI start from £16,960, while the top of the range 2.0-litre TDI with DSG is available from £22,320.

Two petrol engines are offered – a 1.4-litre TSI unit with 120bhp and a twincharged, 1.4-litre TSI developing 158bhp – as well as two diesel units. These include VW’s 1.6-litre TDI with 104bhp, emitting 104g/km CO2 and the more powerful 2.0-litre TDI variant with 138bhp and 126g/km CO2.

Equipped with BlueMotion technology, the entry-level diesel version features stop-start and battery regeneration as standard and is capable of achieving 67.3mpg, the company claims.

Three trim levels are also on offer – S, SE and Sport. S is reserved for the lesser-powered variants, although a seven-speed DSG gearbox is available for the 1.6-litre TDI, which costs from £19,735, compared with £18,410 for its five-speed sibling.

Sport models start from £20,260 for the higher-powered petrol with a six-speed manual ’box, climbing to £22,320 for the six-speed DSG version.

A seven-speed DSG gearbox is also offered for all 1.6-litre diesels and for the 158bhp petrol unit in either SE or Sport guises.
