This is the Hyundai i40, previewed in these official renderings ahead of its 2011 launch.
Based on the same all-new platform as the US-market Sonata, the i40 will come as an estate from April 2011 and then a saloon in the autumn.

The i40’s exterior is modern and striking, though the deeply sculpted sides and odd, curved D-pillar detail are rather less restrained than is the norm in this segment.
There will be two 1.7-litre diesel engines, offering 113bhp and 134bhp, with the lower-tune motor offering CO2 emissions of just 113g/km and the more powerful one 124g/km. Six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes will be offered.

In 2012 a more powerful twin-turbo version of the 1.7 diesel engine will be launched, while a 2.0-litre GDI direct-injection petrol engine will also make the line-up.
Hyundai engineers say they benchmarked the i40 against the Volkswagen Passat and Toyota Avensis. A longer wheelbase than a Passat ensures greater interior space.

Re: Hyundai reveals i40 sketches
not unless Kia have started using Hyundai badges on the grill and i40 badges on the boot. I've seen 3 i40's this week alone here (Mauritius) and autoexpress in the uk road tested a final production i40 in RSA several weeks ago also.
The sonata is easily distinguished by the different grill and the Kia passes only a very slight resemblance - even less so with its interior.

When I saw this my first reaction was very Japanese/Asian blandness with a lack of real distinctiveness. Perhaps the final piccies will flatter it a bit more.
