Hyundai's innovative Veloster coupé has been caught in testing ahead of its debut at January's Detroit motor show.
The compact 2+2 has been designed as a direct rival to the VW Scirocco but is expected be several thousands of pounds cheaper. The new Coupé looks short, with quite a long and flat-looking rear deck, but is otherwise a close match for the 2007 Veloster concept.

Company insiders suggest that the Coupé will have an asymmetric body, with two doors on the left-hand side of the car to make entry to the rear of the cabin easier from the kerb. The car will also have a conventional hatchback.
Powering the new Coupé is Hyundai’s latest 1.6-litre, direct-injection ‘Theta’ engine. In entry-level trim it’ll have around 140bhp and 125lb ft of torque, and an optional twin-clutch gearbox. A 200bhp 1.6-litre turbo variant will arrive after launch.

Re: Hyundai coupé - new pics
The old coupe looked like a coupe whatever it was based on. This might be a much better car underneath, but it looks like a hatchback - shame
Re: Hyundai coupé - new pics
I will wait until the Detroit show to see how close the road going model matches the original Veloster concept, I hope it stays faithful as it was an interesting concept car. Hyundai are definitely on a roll at the minute and a new coupe will only keep it on the right track.
