Audi has launched a V8 version of its R8 Spyder in the UK, costing from £95,545.
The Audi R8 Spyder V8 uses the 4.2-litre FSI V8 engine from the R8 coupé; it has now been made Euro5 emission compliant thanks to a new recuperation system that conserves energy during braking and coasting.

In the R8 Spyder, the revised V8 engine now produces 424bhp at 7900rpm and 317lb ft between 4500rpm and 6000rpm. Audi claims 90 per cent of this torque is available from 3000rpm and between 6000rpm and 7500rpm.
Using the standard six-speed manual gearbox, the R8 Spyder V8 gets from 0-62mph in 4.8sec; the six-speed S tronic automated manual gearbox’s (a £5310 option) 0-62mph time is identical. Both have a top speed of 186mph.

The R8 Spyder V8 gets the same electrohydraulically controlled fabric roof as its V10 sibling. An additional wind deflector is standard, too.
The car features the same standard equipment as the V8 coupé but adds heating and electric adjustment to the leather seats and seatbelt-mounted microphones with Bluetooth connectivity. Metallic paint is also standard.
The car is available to order now and the first deliveries are expected in the UK in January 2011.
