Anti-lock brakes and race wheels are standard. Buyers can opt for air conditioning, which is said to be particularly useful in long-distance races.

It has been sold to customers for 298,00 euros (£269,000) and is eligible for international and national championships that run in accordance with GT3 regulations

These include the FIA GT3 European Championship, International GT Open and the ADAC GT Masters. It is also eligible for a variety of 24-hour endurance races.

The BMW Z4 has more comfort and added practicality, but has it gone soft?

Awesome car! Race cars have

Awesome car! Race cars have all the safety equipment and power required to win races and protect their driver at the same time. Some of them are street legal but most of them are not. It is very important to choose your sources when buying a race car to avoid scam agents or worse, purchasing a stolen vehicle.

Bespoke/low volume = high cost

That aside, does anyone else think that this looks the nuts? The rear diffuser looks particularly aggressive. If it sounds good it may even take top spot from the C6.R as my favourite racer...

So if you bought a new Z4 and a new M3 and swapped the engines, then you'd have (almost) the same car as the BMW GT3 race car, plus an under-engined M3 (if you see what I mean), all for the bargain price of £79K (or thereabouts).

Same as if you want to make your own WRC rally car or Touring car, you just need to strip out the interior of a road car and put a roll cage in.

Fancy a go at world Superbike racing?. Just buy a suitable model road bike, take the number plates off and away you go!.

Sorry, it's just not that simple.

I guarantee you would be amazed at how little this race car has in common with a road going Z4, even if you fitted one with an M3 engine.

It's a bespoke race car, don't be fooled by the looks.
