GM has canned tomorrow’s deadline for the closure of Saab and announced that production lines will roll again to fulfil orders for the new 9-5 and 9-3 Cabrio the company has announced.
However this does not mean that GM has abandoned plans to sell off its troubled Swedish outpost and is still considering offers after a failed bid from Dutch car maker Spyker. "We are preparing a wind-down process . at the same time we are open to options to bids that come in," a Saab spokesman said.
GM is thought to still be in talks with potential buyers for Saab. A revised Spyker bid is thought to still be on the table, as well as the American company Merbanco Inc. General Motors is also believed to be considering continuing making the soon to be launch 9-5 saloon, albeit with Buick branding.

There's nothing wrong with platform sharing. It's what you build up from there that's important. Look at VW, Seat, Skoda, Audi.....

I can't believe I'm about to write this. The new SAAB 9-5 is basically the Buick La Crosse, so GM is already using the 9-5. Given Buick's position in China, could have been part of the reason why the Koenigsegg/BIAC deal fell through. Not only does GM have a problem with their IP heading East but I'm sure they don't want the new 9-5 rivalling the Buick La Crosse in China either.
