New compact car will be sold in emerging markets from next year

Toyota will launch a new compact concept car at next month’s New Dehli motor show aimed at emerging markets.

The Japanese firm hasn’t released any other details about the car and a source told Autocar it was unlikely to be seen ahead of its official launch on 5 January.

Reuters reports that the car has been code-named EFC, standing for Entry Family Car. It won’t be a rival to the Tata Nano, however, as it is set to cost around $10,000 (£6000).

It will be sold in markets including India, Russian and South America, and it is likely to be built at Toyota’s new Indian factory from late 2010, with production also earmarked for Brazil in 2011.

Toyota will display the car alongside 13 other concept and production vehicles at the New Delhi show.

Surely an Aygo without ABS, Airbags etc would only be £6,000. Maybe they are just previewing the next generation Aygo?
