Italian team will race its 355bhp 500 Abarth this weekend

Italian racing team Romeo Ferraris has shown off the most extreme version of the Fiat 500 Abarth yet.

The Romeo Ferraris 500 keeps the base car’s 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but it has been tuned to produce more than 355bhp.

The competition model also has a carbonfibre body, which helps give it a weight of 970kg. It rides on 17-inch OZ alloys with special racing Dunlop tyres.

The car will compete in this weekend’s 6 Hours of Vallelunga race in Italy and will be driven by Michela Cerruti and Mario Ferraris.

Fiat produces its own 500 Abarth racer, which produces 190bhp from the same 1.4-litre engine. It also has a weight of 970kg, and you can see it on video here.
