It has Fiat's 'Traction+' traction control system, which gives it off-road capability that Fiat compares to "that of a light crossover". Turned on by a button on the dashboard, the system operates at speeds above 17mph, electronically simulating a self-locking mechanical diff by braking a spinning wheel and transferring power to the wheel with more grip.

Emphasising the car's off-road credentials, the ride height has been raised by 20mm, while the suspension travel is 10mm greater.

Styling changes from the standard Qubo include a new front bumper design, an underbody shield, roof bars, privacy rear windows and larger wheel arches.

No prices or on-sale dates have yet been released.

Fiat Qubo
There's a surprising amount of fun to be extracted from the Qubo

The Fiat Qubo is related closely to the Citroen Nemo and Peugeot Bipper. All three are derived from vans, but are surprisingly car-like to drive
