New Astra prepared for crime fighting

This is the new Vauxhall Astra police car, which has bene prepared by GM UK Special Vehicles to go on sale this winter.

Police forces will be able to choose from three high-visibility options – half, three-quarter or full. Standard equipment includes LED running lights and a steering wheel with all the push-to-talk (PTT) and at-scene functions required for police use.

Should they spec it, the sat-nav screen has also been tinkered with to include a mobile data terminal to provide police with any information they need while on duty.

It usually takes six months for GM UK Special Vehicles to bring a car like this to market, but the engineers were able to accelerate development as the Astra is being manufactured in the UK.

Last year, Vauxhall sold more than 900 Astras to the police.

Seeing the photo of the new Astra with the Insignia highlights for me what a poor design the Insignia is. The Astra looks good, even in Rozzer livery.

Good, they'll need them. Merseyside and Herts constabularies will be ordering a shed load of new Astras to counter civil unrest when Ellesmere Port and Luton plants are shut. The Met will stick to their Bimmers and Mercs to protect Dear Leader Kim Jung Brown from the little people's retribution for busting UK.
