European car production was down 11.4 per cent year-on-year in July to 1,476,041 units, the smallest decline of the year to date.
The figures, compiled by JD Power Automotive Forecasting, show that Ford saw the largest production rise on last year with 22.5 per cent increase to 102,886 units. This was helped by strong demand for the Ka and Fiesta, which have seen their sales boosted by the success of pan-European scrappage schemes.
The Volkswagen groups's July production was up 14.4 percent to 166,403 units. The main reason for the increase was a 131.1 per cent boost in output for the new Polo. VW built 55,932 Polos in July, up from 24,200 during the same period last year.
In the first seven months of 2009, production was down 27.9 per cent to 8,759,370 units in western and eastern Europe, including Russia and Turkey, compared with the year before.
The year's production low point was a 39.7 per cent decline to 1,070,474 units in February.
