Iconic Dodge model could make use of Fiat-Chrysler tie-up

The next-generation Dodge Viper is set to be powered by a Ferrari V10 engine.

Dodge parent company Chrysler has been taken over by Fiat and CEO Sergio Marchionne is said to be keen on sharing platforms and powertrains across different brands.

Marchionne believes the Viper is Dodge’s “halo” car, which transmits the firm’s brand values and offers tremendous marketing potential.

The Viper’s current aluminium V10 engine was co-developed between Chrysler and Lamborghini. Ferrari is currently developing a new range of engines, with Ferrari and Maserati set to benefit from new V8 units and Dodge making use of the new V10.

A few months ago, Chrysler had been trying to sell Dodge amid falling sales but it was taken off the market when no serious bidder emerged.
