Chinese firm will bring its BS4 estate to Europe - despite safety fears over the saloon version

Chinese manufacturer Brilliance is planning to bring its BS4 mid-sized estate to Europe.

Brilliance, BMW’s partner in China, is the only Chinese manufacturer currently selling cars in Europe, where it has sold around 4000 of its BS4 and BS6 saloons since 2007.

No stars for Brilliance

“We are going through regulatory procedures currently in Europe trying to get our BS4 wagon into the market,” said an executive at the state-owned company.

Sales of Brilliance cars have been hampered by concerns over safety, with its BS4 saloon scoring no stars in the recently revised and stricter EuroNCAP tests.

Despite these results, Brilliance is pressing ahead with a European launch of the BS4 estate. It showed off a near-production version at the Geneva motor show earlier this year.

Prices for the Brilliance BS4 estate are expected to start at around 18,000 euros (£15,000) when it goes on sale later this year. There are no plans at present to bring it to the UK.
