F1 world championship leader heads to China

Formula One world championship leader Jenson Button has announced he will compete in the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Bejing in this year’s Race of Champions.

The event takes place two days after the F1 season finale at Abu Dhabi.

Button will race against rival Sebastian Vettel, who will be paired with seven-time F1 world champion Michael Schumacher in the Nations Cup element of the competition.

Button said: "It’s always a great event, it’s great for the fans but it’s especially good for all of us competitors." Organiser Fredrik Johnsson added: “Jenson has been a great competitor in The Race of Champions over the past two years.

"With him and Sebastian Vettel already confirmed we have two of the leading drivers in this year’s championship, and whoever wins the title, they’ll be able to have one last battle at the end of the season.”

The Race of Champions will take place on 3-4 November.
