Transport minister announces additional funds

Transport minister Sadiq Khan has announced that an extra £440 million will be made available to British local authorities in a bid to improve street lighting.

The money must be applied for by local authorities, as part of the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) credits scheme.

Khan said: "Good quality street lighting improves road safety and reduces crime and the fear of crime.

"This funding will help to create safer and healthier local communities by promoting social inclusion and more sustainable patters of transport such as cycling and walking."

Chief Executives of local authorities will obtain full details of how they can apply for this funding in September. Twitter - follow autocar.co.uk
