But says problem is down to Lotus

Tesla has issued a recall notice for all 345 Roadsters produced before 22 April 2009.

Tesla is blaming the problem on Lotus assembly, saying in a statement that "rear, inner hub flange bolts on a smaller percentage of vehicles were improperly torqued."

The Tesla Roadster is based on the Lotus Elise and Exige and it is understood that Lotus has issued a similar recall for some of their own models.

The problem came to light after one owner reported uncharacteristic handling, but no accidents have been reported as a result of the fault.

Greg Zanghi, Tesla's director of service and parts operations, said: “We plan to do everything we can to address this matter swiftly and keep customers satisfied.”
