VW confirms two-car entry at Nurburgring 24 Hours

Two natural gas-powered VW Sciroccos will race in this year’s Nurburgring 24 Hours. The new Scirocco GT24-CNG uses the same basic architecture as last year's class-winning race car but is powered by Compressed Natural Gas,

The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine delivers around 290bhp horsepower and 258lb ft of torque, but is said to be 25 per cent cleaner than a petrol-engined version of the car. It is linked to a six-speed DSG gearbox.

The Scirocco GT24-CNGs will compete in the two-litre turbocharged category, where competition will come from cars including a factory-backed Subaru Impreza STI.

Three petrol-engine VW Sciroccos will also enter the event.
