Internal document hints at world-wide sales for budget car

Tata’s upgraded Nano budget car will be rolled out globally, according to an internal document from the Indian maker that has been seen by Autocar.

The upgraded version of the domestic four-seater is being referred to inside Tata as the ‘World Nano’ even though the car was unveiled at Geneva as the Nano Europa.

Although there’s no news as to whether it will meet stringent North American crash test regulations, the Nano could find particular favour in southern Europe, South America and other predominantly rural markets.

The adoption of a new three-cylinder engine and a new five-speed ‘overdrive’ autobox will push the Global Nano’s emissions below the 100g/km benchmark.
