Formula One stars, an Airbus A380, and classic rally cars are all part of this year’s attractions

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is always a popular destination for enthusiasts, and this year should be no exception. The annual event takes place this weekend, and here are our tips for what not to miss at the 2008 FoS.

Formula OneThe theme this year is ‘Hawthorn to Hamilton’. With six F1 teams visiting the festival there will be plenty of opportunity to see everything from the modern day racers through to Hawthorn’s 1958 Ferrari. You’ll even get to see the cars in action. Lewis Hamilton will be attracting the crowds, but don’t forget to look out for , Damon Hill and Jenson Button, who will also be driving the famous Goodwood hill route.

Rally stageThe classic cars are the ones to look for at this year’s rally stage. Stig Blomqvist, Juha Kankkunen, Bjorn Waldegard and Hannu Mikkola will all be taking on the short gravel course in the historic rally cars, alongside Petter Solberg in the new Impreza WRC car and Mikko Hirvonen in the Focus WRC car.

Air displaysIf the Red Arrows just aren’t entertaining enough for you, Goodwood may have the answer. Saturday’s festival goers will get to witness a flypast by the new ‘super jumbo’ Airbus A380.

Classic dragstersThe Goodwood cricket pitch will be the location of a dozen drag cars from the '50s and '60s, which will fire up twice a day in what is being dubbed the 'cacklefest' by organisers. Worth visiting if you’re a fan of classic racers and tinnitus.

The PaddocksDon’t overlook them just because they’re there every year. The paddocks give you the opportunity to get close to all the cars visiting the show, from a Bugatti Veyron to a Ford Model-T, via Lewis Hamilton’s weekend car. It’s a rare opportunity in modern motoring events and one of the attractions that really makes the Festival of Speed worth a visit.
