The 2008 Formula One season will include a night race, after the World Motor Sport Council and FIA approved plans for Singapore to host the event.Last month the FIA approved plans for a three-mile (5km) street track around Singapore’s downtown Marina Bay area. Now that initial lighting tests have been successful, the race is set to go ahead on 28 September 2008.The FIA has also announced that “There will be a total freeze on engine development for a period of 10 years, starting from 2008. A change can be made after five years but only with the unanimous agreement of all stakeholders and following a further two-year notice period.”The ‘pinnacle of motorsport’ encouraging manufacturers to stick with what will soon be outdated technology? It sounds mad to us, too, but this is likely to be the FIA engaging in some kind of politics with the teams, and we’d be surprised if it doesn’t change.
