Zonda R: The fastest Pagani ever

Pagani has released official renderings and details of its fastest and most insane-looking car yet.Set to appear at the 2008 Geneva motor show, the Zonda R will use the same 6.0-litre AMG-tuned V12 as the other Zonda models but with power output cranked up to 750bhp at 8000rpm. Currently, the Zonda F is the most powerful Pagani with a mere 594bhp at 6150rpm. Pagani hasn't released official weight and performance figures, but expect the R to pack nearly 650bhp per tonne and hit 100mph in around 6.5 seconds.Despite some similarity in appearance, the Zonda R shares only 10 per cent of its parts with the F. The wheelbase has been modified, giving an extra 47mm in length and 50mm width in order to produce a lower centre of gravity and more traction. A carbonfibre monocoque and new transverse six-speed sequential gearbox also add to the car's track abilities. Pagani claims that the Zonda R can complete the Nurburgring in 7minutes and 32 seconds. As the images in our gallery show, the bodywork is almost entirely carbonfibre and there will be no shortage of downforce from the wing. Which, naturally, is also made out of carbonfibre. The Zonda R is designed entirely for the track, hence a rubber fuel tank, roll cage and GT-style quick refuel for those all-important pit stops. However, the car will also be road legal and built to the same quality standards as the current road cars; A reasonable expectation for a car that will cost around £700,000. Sadly, Pagani doesn't take such pains to ensure that its customers are as worthy of the brand as they are wealthy.
