Vauxhall launch a V6 turbo version of its unloved family wagon

There’s a new star of Vauxhall’s unloved Signum range inbound - a new high-performance flagship with a 250bhp 2.8-litre turbo V6 engine, and which offers all the extra practicality that the standard Signum does over the Vectra - but at 155mph. Available in sporty Design and more luxurious Elite trims, it’s priced from £23,050, and shares its engine with the tyre-shredding Vauxhall Vectra VXR.

Family-oriented drivers in a bit of a hurry will be most interested in the Design trim; this boasts lowered and uprated suspension and a six-speed manual gearbox, and Vauxall is claiming a 6.8sec 0-60mph sprint for it.

The Elite is fitted with a six-speed automatic gearbox. Both variants are fitted with the ESP-Plus stability system. Other standard equipment includes colour satnav and 17-inch alloys. Both versions of the new car are in showrooms now. Alternatively, if you're prepared to wait 18 months for a used one, with Signum resale values being as they are, we'd expect them to be changing hands for eyebrow-raisingly little.
