Nissan has released these pictures of its mean-looking 350Z GT-S Concept, which will be making its public debut at the forthcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed.
This one-off special was created by a team of British Nissan development engineers in their spare time, and that bodykit isn’t just for show: the GT-S has a supercharged engine turning out 377bhp.
As well as increasing power, the supercharger ups torque from 260lb ft to 313lb ft, cutting around a second of the standard 350Z’s 5.8sec 0-60mph time and 2.5sec from the 0-100mph time.
The tweaked Z has also had work on the suspension, with special Bilstein dampers to aid handling while also improving ride comfort, with a focus on the car’s ability on British B-roads. It’s not just ride comfort that the engineers claim to have improved: they have fitted extra sound deadening to increase refinement.
The GT-S should also sound more mellifluous thanks to an electronically controlled by-pass valve that enriches the exhaust note at a pre-determined engine speed.
There’s even a chance that the GT-S could be made into a production version. The team’s technical leader, Steve Robbins, said: "We looked at the possible marketing potential of such a project and have designed the improvements as individual ‘packs’ – an engine pack, a suspension pack, aero pack and so on – and kept a close eye on costs."Nissan insiders suggest that the GT-S’s appearance at Goodwood is a sign that the company is giving it concept serious consideration.
