Ford focuses on a new niche

At Geneva today, Ford has joined the CC party with the Focus. Encouraged by reaction to its Vignale concept of 2004, Ford took the plunge in co-operation with Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina.

Ford has positioned the CC as a top of the range model and a tourer rather than a sports car. So there will be a full gamut of passive and active safety sytems and high-line in car entertainment. The show car is decked out in ‘Camel’ leather seats and a contrasting ‘Iris’ upper dashboard. The CC is designed as four-seater and Ford promise a decent amount of luggage space. It will come with a choice of two petrol units: the 98bhp 1.6-litre and 143bhp 2.0-litre. There will also be a 134bhp TDCi diesel. Ford’s partnership with Pininfarina sees the CC built at Pininfarina’s plants in the Turin suburbs, with major Focus components sent there by Ford from Germany. Ford are hoping for 20,000 CC sales a year.
