Volkswagen announces prices and specifications for the new Golf R32

The most powerful Volkswagen Golf ever, the 247bhp, four-wheel drive R32 4MOTION, goes on sale in November with prices beginning at £23,745 for the three-door manual version, rising to £25,575 for the five-door DSG.

The R32 will feature a healthy standard specification including dual zone climate control, ten-speaker sound system, automatic wipers and rear-view mirror, 20mm lower sports suspension and 18in alloy wheels. Unfortunately the dramatic leather Recaro seats pictured are a £945 option, and it's another £500 if you want five doors.

The-first generation R32 was a surprise hit, selling three times Volkswagen’s initial estimates, and its replacement retains the same 3.2-litre V6 powerplant but its FSI technology gives a 10bhp power hike to 247bhp. That grunt is deployed through a Haldex four-wheel-drive system to all four wheels giving excellent traction and a 0-62mph time of 6.2sec if you go for the optional (£1330) DSG dual-clutch gearbox. The six-speed manual version manages the same sprint in 6.5sec, while both achieve a 155mph maximum.
