Vauxhall announces prices for the forthcoming Vectra VXR

Vauxhall has announced prices for its new Vectra VXR, which goes on sale in November this year. The VXR hatch is to start at £23,995, with an estate version to appear in spring 2006 for £24,995. Developing 252bhp and 236lb ft, the hatchback VXR is the most powerful car in its class, with a 161mph top speed.

An impressive array of standard features bolsters the VXR package. Recaro sports seats, 18-inch alloy wheels and a VXR sports bodykit are all standard, with the option of 19-inch wheels for £500. Also fitted is a dual-processor electronically controlled damper system, usually the domain of much more expensive supercars.

The Estate variant should become the fastest in its class when it arrives, beating the electronically limited 155mph top speeds of such prestige models as the BMW 330i Touring and Mercedes-Benz C55AMG. With practicality to match its speed, the VXR Estate will also boast a class-leading 1850 litres of luggage space.
