Caterham Superlight returns after three years to mark its tenth anniversary

Caterham has announced a new entry-level Superlight to run alongside its latest CSR range. Marking the tenth anniversary of the original Superlight, deliveries of the new car will start in October 2005, priced at £22,450 fully built, or £19,995 partially built.

Powered by a 1.8-litre X-Power K-series engine, developing 140bhp and 124lb ft of torque, the 495kg Superlight offers a power to weight ratio equal to that of the Ferrari 360 Spider, and Caterham claim this will translate to a 0-60mph time of under 5.0sec.

Standard equipment includes 13-inch motorsport wheels with Avon’s CR500 tyres, adjustable suspension and uprated brakes. If you can stand adding weight, options include a windscreen and heater to many the car more road-friendly, or a roll-over bar and fire extinguisher for those looking to tear up the track.
