America's answers to the BMW M5 and Mercedes SL55 AMG will make their European debuts at the Frankfurt motor show next month. And Cadillac has confirmed that the high-performance V-series versions of its STS luxury saloon and folding hardtop XLR roadster will go on sale in Europe in early 2006.
The 395bhp Corvette-powered CTS-V went on sale here earlier this year, but power for both of its forthcoming siblings comes from a supercharged version of Cadillac's 4.4-litre Northstar V8, driving the rear wheels through GM's six-speed Hydramatic auto. The XLR-V gets 442bhp and 414lb ft of torque, while the better-breathing STS-V's 469bhp and 439lb ft of torque make it the most powerful production Caddy ever.
Cadillac claims sub-5.0sec 0-60mph times and 155mph electronically limited top speeds for both cars, with bigger brakes and Nurburgring-honed chassis to match. Prices will be announced nearer to launch.
