The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency has launched a campaign to persuade drivers to correct their registration documents, following its shock admission that nearly one third of all British car registration documents are incorrect.
But the Association of British Drivers has hit out at the Government’s attitude towards motorists, blaming the rising costs of driving on British roads - due to speed cameras, congestion charging and draconian parking policies – for the number of drivers falsely registering their cars.
‘With the current climate of serious security threats it is truly frightening that the government have allowed things to get to the stage where they cannot identify the owners of 32% of cars on our roads,’ said ABD spokesman Nigel Humphries. ‘They have spent a fortune on cameras and number plate recognition systems which is totally wasted, only those who legally register their cars have anything to fear whilst terrorists and other criminals can move about the country undetected by such measures.”
