Citroen’s economical supermini is now even more frugal as the French manufacturer launches its C1 1.4HDi in the UK. The C1 is the first of the C1/Peugeot 107/Toyota Aygo triplets to receive the PSA Pegueot Citroen-sourced diesel engine. Priced at £8445, the 55bhp diesel model costs £1100 more than the three-cylinder petrol C1 Rhythm. To claw back that extra cash, the 1.4HDi boasts an average fuel consumption of 69mpg, some 7.5mpg more than the petrol version, and a 28lb ft increase in torque to 96lb ft. Befitting its range-topping status, the diesel option is available in five-door Rhythm trim only. Standard equipment includes four airbags, ABS, remote controlled central locking, front electric windows and a CD player as standard.
