Currently reading: AA wants speed limit increased

The AA is calling for 80mph maximum speeds on sections of motorway controlled by temporary speed limits – such as the western section of the M25, and soon the M42 – in a move that would bring the UK in line with Europe’s other major countries.

The AA argues that sections of motorway that are constantly monitored could have their limit extended to 80mph during quiet periods. ‘If we have the technology to drop the limit to 50 or 60, why not increase the speed when conditions are very good?’ said a spokesman.
