These are the first pictures of Alfa Romeo’s new Spider, testing in Germany ahead of a UK launch early next year. The Spider will share an engine line-up with the new Alfa Brera, on which it is based. They include four-cylinder 2.2- and 3.2-litre V6 petrols and the 2.4 JTD diesel, and top-end models should benefit from the Torsion C 4x4 system that sends up to 70 per cent of power to the rear wheels. The Brera/Spider’s sophisticated chassis is rumoured to be the base for a series of new Maseratis – possibly including a replacement for the Coupé and Spider. Fiat Auto re-acquired Maserati from Ferrari and wants it to work much more closely with Alfa Romeo.
