Rover will re-launch the slow-selling CityRover hatch next spring with revised suspension, equipment and prices due to be announced in the next few weeks.

EU law changes mean the entry-level Solo model will get anti-lock brakes as standard: currently a £300 option, but the price will be cut to under £6000 – effectively adding £800 of value to the cheapest City Rover. ‘We want to get under the Fiat Panda at the entry level,’ says a source.

Suspension tweaks will aim to improve ride and handling, and the four-model range could be cut to three, each with a higher spec and lower price.

Despite its lukewarm reception, 6000 City Rovers have been registered in the UK. The revised car will also be launched overseas.
