A year after the covers came off the ambitious V12, quad-turbocharged, 850bhp ME412 supercar, Chrysler has scaled down its sporting ambitions with this 425bhp concept. Appearing at the Detroit Motor Show in January, the Firepower signals Chrysler’s intent to provide the Crossfire with a more powerful sibling. The Firepower shares its platform with the UK-bound Dodge SRT-10 (formerly known as the Viper), and could provide the basis for a two-seater to challenge the Corvette C6.
Designed by Brian Nielander, responsible for the 412, the Firepower’s similarity to that supercar is most apparent from the front, with its bonnet vents, swept-back headlights and downturned bumper cut-out. It also features a full-length glass roof and gets Chrysler’s 6.1-litre V8, also heading for the hottest Chrysler 300C, the SRT-8. It will be joined at Detroit by the Gladiator pick-up concept (see gallery). Based on an all-new platform, and powered by a 160bhp 2.8-litre turbodiesel, the Gladiator is what Chrysler calls a ‘Flexible Utility Truck’.
