Currently reading: Saab hatches new name

Next year’s new Saab 9-3 estate is likely to be called Sport Hatch or Sport Combi, Autocar has learned.

Sources in Sweden say the name 9-3 Sport Hatch used for the concept shown at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show is favourite, although Sport Combi is also a front-runner.

The wagon will be the next addition to the 9-3 range after last year’s convertible. Expect prices from around £18,500 when sales start in March 2005.

It will closely resemble the show car (above), although it will lose the glass roof and concept detailing. A split tailgate, roof rails and Saab’s innovative aircraft-style load-bay lashing system will come as standard. Saab has used the Combi badge before, on the 1974 99 Combi three-door.
