Saab is sending the 9-3’s funky-looking but finger-snapping handbrake back to the drawing board, Autocar has learned.
The latest Saab’s unusual handbrake is integrated into the transmission tunnel and looks like a grab handle when released. When applied, it sits raised in the usual fashion. The problem occurs when drivers release the brake, as fingers are often pinched when the lever falls flush with the tunnel.
‘It looks good but it doesn’t work,’ admitted a senior executive. ‘We may have to totally start again with that part of the interior.’
