Celebrating 50 years since the arrival of its lightweight 550 Spyder, infamous as the car in which actor James Dean perished, Porsche has introduced an ‘Anniversary Edition’ of the Boxster S.
To be unveiled at the Detroit show in January, the special edition, limited to 1953 cars, goes on sale in the UK in March.
£3370 over a standard S buys an extra 6bhp from the 3.2-litre flat-six, boosting it to 266bhp, and an increased top speed of 165mph – up 1mph. The body is lowered by 10mm and features sports suspension, while the manual version’s gearbox travel has been reduced by 15 per cent (Tiptronic remains an option). There are new 18in alloys and silver-painted brake callipers, a wider track, stainless-steel exhaust pipe and cocoa-coloured hood and interior.
