There are glimmers of hope on the horizon for anyone with an eye to buying a used Porsche 911 Turbo, without paying more than the £88,240 list price.
Examples are now regularly changing hands with sticker prices below £80k, but only if you steer clear of main dealers and are prepared to sign up for a car with more than 10,000 miles on the clock.
We spotted a 2002 ’02-plate Tiptronic model on sale at an independent dealer, with 15,000 miles on the clock, for £77,950. By comparison, a Surrey-based Porsche main dealer was selling a 6000-mile example with near identical spec for £87,900.
Going to the independents doesn’t mean settling for a poor selection either, as there’s plenty on offer. Other cars up for grabs when we went looking included a 2001 01-plate model in black with 10k up for £76,995, while supercar specialist Tom Hartley was selling an ’01 51-plate Tiptronic with 13k on the clock for £79,750.
Buyers of new Turbos should not be too concerned about values tailing off. They still outperform rivals such as the Ferrari 360 Modena, and you can ease the residual blow with judicious colour speccing – dark metallics, black and silver, combined with sobre interior trim, being the most sought-after combos.
