Company pushes ahead with new car despite sale plans

These Ssangyong C200 spy pictures show the company is pushing ahead with new car development despite remaining in bankruptcy protection and being subject to takeover speculation.

The Ssangyong C200 was scheduled to be launched at the Frankfurt motor show in September, and go on sale in the UK in March.

But several weeks of strike action at the firm's Pyeongtaek factory in South Korea last year and the continued state of Korean court-approved bankruptcy protection have indefinitely delayed the C200’s launch.

The C200 is the first of a new generation of Ssangyong vehicles to use a monocoque body and is likely to form the basis for future models.

The Giugiaro designed C200 is similar in size to the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CRV, but Ssangyong hopes it will provide a more affordable alternative in the burgeoning crossover sector.
